What is VOD Auctions

VOD Auctions is a curated marketplace for rare records, with a focus on industrial, experimental and electronic music from the late 1970s and early 1980s onward. The platform is operated by Frank Bull (VOD-Records, Alpenstrasse 25/1, 88045 Friedrichshafen, Germany), the same person and address behind the long-running Vinyl-On-Demand label and the tape-mag.com archive.

What we are

A small marketplace where every seller is hand-reviewed. Sellers list specific copies — not generic catalog entries — and ship directly to buyers. Frank curates the seller base; the platform handles search, listings, ratings, communication and the auction blocks that frame our themed sales.

What we are not

We are not a generic Discogs-style open marketplace, and we are not a Catawiki-style high-touch auction house. We sit deliberately in between: focused on quality and trust without piling on per-sale fees.

How it makes money

VOD Auctions is membership-funded. Buying and selling do not carry a per-transaction commission. Instead, members pay a small monthly fee for the right to buy or sell. Browsing the catalog is free for any registered account.

This is what lets us keep prices honest: the price you see on a listing is the price you pay (plus shipping). There is no buyer fee bolted on at checkout. There is no commission silently priced into the seller's number.

Why we exist

The records this platform deals with are scarce, often single-copy, and shipping them across borders has become more expensive and complicated since 2021. A small, EU-based marketplace with low fixed cost and direct seller-to-buyer shipping turned out to make more sense for this niche than a big global platform. That is the entire pitch.

If you are still browsing, the archive lives at tape-mag.com — it is free, search-friendly and has more context than the marketplace alone. If you are ready to buy or sell, you are in the right place.
